چکیده

AN AUTOIMMUNE ETIOLOGY IS HYPOTHETICALLY INVOLVED IN THE PHYSIOPATHOLOGY OF NARCOLEPSY, ALTHOUGH THERE IS CONFLICTING EVIDENCE.1-4 This disorder is related to abnormalities in the hypothalamic hypocretin (orexin) system with a characteristic deficiency in CSF Hypocretin-1 (Hcrt-1) levels in narcoleptic patients.5 The aim of our study was to investigate the presence of hypothalamic-specific antibodies in the serum and CSF of narcoleptic patients, previously tested for CSF Hcrt-1 status, by using immunohistochemistry and the screening of a hypothalamic cDNA expression library. The latter is a systematic and unbiased approach method widely used for the detection of onconeural antigens eliciting specific immune responses.

Evaluation of nail characteristics in patients with vitiligo

Background: Vitiligo is an acquired skin discoloration with melanocytic destruction. Vitiligo is associated with other autoimmune disorders; hence, an autoimmune etiology is among the most important theories for this disorder. The nails can be involved in numerous cutaneous or systemic non-cutaneous disorders. We have taken into consideration previous studies on nail abnormalities in vitiligo a...

Pathophysiological mechanisms of gonadotropins– and steroid hormones–related genes in etiology of polycystic ovary syndrome

Objective(s): Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrinopathy in women, which, unlike its impact on fertility and health of women, there is no clear understanding about the causal mechanisms of this pathogenesis. The aim of this review paper is to investigate the pathophysiological pathways affecting the PCOS etiology, based on functions of gonadotropins– and steroid hormones–related gene...

O21: Aquaporinopathy and Cerebral Inflammation

Many mammalian AQPs, including AQP1, AQP2, AQP4, AQP5 and AQP8, function primarily as bidirectional water-selective transporters. Cells expressing AQPs on their plasma membrane have an ~5- to 50-fold higher osmotic water permeability than membranes that do not. Water transport through single-file pores poses a biophysical limitation on the efficiency with which AQPs can transport water, so that...

Unilateral Hypothalamus Inactivation Prevents PTZ Kindling Development through Hippocampal Orexin Receptor 1 Modulation

Introduction: Epilepsy is a neural disorder in which abnormal plastic changes during short and long term periods lead to increased excitability of brain tissue. Kindling is an animal model of epileptogenesis which results in changes of synaptic plasticity due to repetitive electrical or chemical sub-convulsive stimulations of the brain. Lateral hypothalamus, as the main niche of orexin neurons ...

P 75: Inflammation in the Pathogenesis of Depression

Depression is a mental disorder that results from changes in the central nervous system (CNS) that may result from immunological abnormalities. According to the World Health Organization, major depression will become the leading cause of disability worldwide. Accumulating evidence has indicated the existence of reciprocal communication pathways between nervous, endocrine and immune systems. The...
